Jeffrey Sward



Jeffrey Sward is an accomplished Senior Executive and Consultant with more than 40 years of success across the retail and wholesale apparel & fashion industries.  His roles managed merchandising & design, planning, sourcing, sales and distribution.  There were assignments at both department stores and specialty stores. Branded and private label.  Leveraging extensive management experience leading retail & wholesale business from product conceptualization through merchandising & design to sourcing and implementation, he is a valuable asset for companies working on turning around of flat or deteriorating sales, process improvement, or on change management initiatives. His broad areas of expertise include product development, business process improvement, brand development, risk management, business transformation, strategic planning, competitive analysis, P&L, and marketing strategy.

Throughout his executive career, Mr. Sward has held leadership positions at companies including Merchandising Metrics Inc., Ben Sherman North America, Beachbody, Aisle 5, Oxford Apparel, DKNY Kids, and Polo Ralph Lauren Boys.  He is currently CEO & Founding Partner of Merchandising Metrics since 2013, a retail & wholesale consultancy where he recently completed a one-year assignment in China to coach a retailer with 2400+ stores that included a re-engineering of branding, merchandising and design processes. This follows roles as Senior VP with Ben Sherman, General Merchandise Manager with Beachbody, and COO with Aisle 5. He previously spent 10 years as Group President with Oxford Apparel, including roles as President of Polo Ralph Lauren Boys and DKNY Kids. Here he was hired as a retailer to fix the wholesale business for Ralph Lauren Boys, implemented an integral planning and merchandising tool enabling detailed collaboration with retailers, and grew the business from $56M to $98M in two years while doubling return on net assets to 24%. He then repeated the process with DKNY Kids. This was preceded by Merchandise Manager roles with American Eagle Outfitters and Abercrombie & Fitch. He earlier spent two years as VP/Divisional Merchandise Manager with Sak’s Fifth Ave., where he managed eight buyers for a $100M business across 47 stores in 23 states and reversed a three-year negative sales trend with successful turnaround strategies in planning, product, and presentation. He honed his management skills during 15 prior years with Macy’s South/Bullock’s.

Jeffrey holds a BBA in Finance from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo. His brand management experience features assignments with brands including Polo Ralph Lauren Boys, Tommy Bahama, Izod Golf, Orvis, P90X, and Donna Karan Kids.
