The Disappearance of the Middleman
The middleman has been disappearing for some time already. This evolution – or revolution – will change the world for businesses, professionals
The middleman is disappearing even from sectors like Art and Design. Vango developed an app where a collector can use a smartphone to take a picture of their own wall and place artwork from individual artists there for evaluation. (Vango went belly-up this summer, but that often happens with pioneers.) Authors can be their own agent and publisher via platforms like Smashwords and sell their e-books directly through channels like Amazon, Apple
Is your business threatened by the disappearance of the middleman? Does the disappearance of the middleman give you new options as a professional?
The biggest revolution will be seen in global logistics. It´s not just the middleman disappearing there but the entire MAN. Tesla is about to launch their autonomous electric semi truck. What will that mean to the 3.5 million truck drivers in the US? How will that reflect on the economy as a whole? The first fully autonomous electric container ship “Yara Birkeland” will be delivered in 2020. Konecranes has invested in AI for years in their cranes and lifting equipment. They are collecting daily data from 18.000 machines around the globe, getting daily data that would have taken 10 years to collect previously. They are well positioned when global logistics transforms into a fully autonomous process.
Where are you in all this? Is this a threat or are you positioned to see it as an opportunity?
